Safety

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Supra Auto offers optional Emergency Braking that use rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. The A5 doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The Supra’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Supra and the A5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Supra 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Audi covers the A5. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the A5 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Supra for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A5.

There are over 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Supra’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in initial quality. With 50 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 128 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 29th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota third in overall reliability. Audi is ranked 7th.

Engine

The Supra’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 121 more horsepower (382 vs. 261) and 95 lbs.-ft. more torque (368 vs. 273) than the A5’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Toyota Supra, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the A5.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Supra’s brake rotors are larger than those on the A5:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Supra has larger tires than the A5 (F:255/35R19 & R:275/35R19 vs. 245/40R18).

The Supra’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A5’s standard 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Supra has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the A5.

Suspension and Handling

The Supra has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The A5’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Supra 3.0 Premium handles at 1.07 G’s, while the A5 Prestige Coupe pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Supra 3.0 Premium executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.6 seconds quicker than the A5 Prestige Coupe (23.7 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 26.3 seconds @ .71 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Supra’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the A5’s (34.1 feet vs. 37.7 feet).

Chassis

The Toyota Supra may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 650 pounds less than the Audi A5.

The Supra is 1 foot shorter than the A5, making the Supra easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Supra has .9 inches more front headroom and .9 inches more front legroom than the A5 Coupe.

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the Supra the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the A5 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

The Supra’s standard Smart Key System allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Engine Start/Stop standard on the A5 only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

The Toyota Supra has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the A5 Premium Plus/Prestige.

Compared to traditional radio, the Toyota Supra’s standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks. Satellite radio costs extra on the A5.
