Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Supra Auto offers optional Emergency Braking that use rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. The S5 doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The Supra’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The S5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Supra and the S5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Supra 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Audi covers the S5. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the S5 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Supra for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the S5.

There are over 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Supra’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in initial quality. With 50 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 128 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 29th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota third in overall reliability. Audi is ranked 7th.

The Supra’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 33 more horsepower (382 vs. 349) than the S5’s 3.0 turbo V6.

On the EPA test cycle the Supra 8-speed Auto gets better fuel mileage than the S5 Coupe (22 city/29 hwy vs. 21 city/29 hwy).

The Supra offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The S5 doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

The Supra Auto’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The S5 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction and acceleration, the Supra has larger rear tires than the S5 (275/35R19 vs. 255/35R19). The Supra’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the S5 (275/35R19 vs. 265/30R20).

The Supra’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51.5% to 48.5%) than the S5’s (56.7% to 43.3%). This gives the Supra more stable handling and braking.

The Supra 3.0 Premium handles at 1.07 G’s, while the S5 Prestige Coupe pulls only .94 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Supra’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the S5’s (34.1 feet vs. 37.7 feet).

The Toyota Supra may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 750 pounds less than the Audi S5.

The Supra is 1 foot shorter than the S5, making the Supra easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Supra has .9 inches more front headroom and .9 inches more front legroom than the S5 Coupe.

The Supra’s standard Smart Key System allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Engine Start/Stop standard on the S5 only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

The Supra’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The S5’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Toyota Supra has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the S5 Premium Plus/Prestige.
