For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Toyota Land Cruiser have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Land Cruiser’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Grenadier doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Toyota Land Cruiser are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Land Cruiser are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Land Cruiser has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Land Cruiser has a standard Parking Support Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Grenadier doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Land Cruiser offers an optional Multi-Terrain Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Grenadier only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

The Toyota Land Cruiser offers an optional Multi-Terrain Monitor and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

The Land Cruiser’s blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Land Cruiser’s standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Parking Support Brake automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

Both the Land Cruiser and the Grenadier have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Land Cruiser for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. INEOS doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Grenadier.

There are over 41 times as many Toyota dealers as there are INEOS dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Land Cruiser’s warranty.

The Land Cruiser’s 2.4 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 44 more horsepower (326 vs. 282) and 133 lbs.-ft. more torque (465 vs. 332) than the Grenadier’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Toyota Land Cruiser is faster than the INEOS Grenadier:

Regenerative brakes improve the Land Cruiser’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Toyota Land Cruiser uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Grenadier requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Land Cruiser has a tether attaching its gas cap to prevent its loss. The Grenadier’s gas cap isn’t tethered, so it can be left at a gas station if the driver forgets to screw the cap back in.

For better stopping power the Land Cruiser’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Grenadier:

The Land Cruiser’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Grenadier are solid, not vented.

The Land Cruiser’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Grenadier’s 70 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Land Cruiser has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Grenadier. The Land Cruiser’s optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 18-inch wheels optional on the Grenadier.

The Toyota Land Cruiser’s independent front suspension is much lighter than the INEOS Grenadier’s solid front axle, which allows the Land Cruiser’s wheels to react more quickly and accurately to the road’s surface, improving both ride and handling.

The Land Cruiser (except 1958) has an active front sway bar, which helps keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnects at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

For much better steering response and tighter handling the Land Cruiser has rack and pinion steering, like Formula racecars, instead of the recirculating-ball type steering of the Grenadier.

The Land Cruiser handles at .69 G’s, while the Grenadier Fieldmaster pulls only .62 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Land Cruiser executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.8 seconds quicker than the Grenadier Trialmaster (29.7 seconds @ .55 average G’s vs. 31.5 seconds @ .49 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Land Cruiser’s turning circle is 5 feet tighter than the Grenadier’s (39.4 feet vs. 44.4 feet).

The Toyota Land Cruiser may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 450 pounds less than the INEOS Grenadier.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Land Cruiser has standard flush composite headlights. The Grenadier has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Land Cruiser’s rear seats recline. The Grenadier’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Land Cruiser’s cargo area is larger than the Grenadier’s in almost every dimension:

The Land Cruiser’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Grenadier’s two swing out doors impair rear visibility, need a lot of clearance, and can block loading in tight quarters.

The Land Cruiser’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Grenadier’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Land Cruiser (except 1958) has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a power cargo door.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Land Cruiser to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes, based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. INEOS doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Grenadier.

The Land Cruiser has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The engine computer on the Land Cruiser automatically engages the starter until the car starts with one twist of the key and disables the starter while the engine is running. The Grenadier’s starter can be accidentally engaged while the engine is running, making a grinding noise and possibly damaging the starter and ring gear.

When two different drivers share the Land Cruiser (except 1958), the optional memory system makes it convenient for both. Each keyless remote activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Land Cruiser (except 1958)’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Land Cruiser’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Grenadier does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Land Cruiser (except 1958) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Land Cruiser’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Grenadier has a lever-type parking brake that has to be strenuously raised to engage properly. It has to be lifted up more and a button depressed to release it.

The Land Cruiser’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. INEOS does not offer a locking feature on the Grenadier’s standard power windows.

The Land Cruiser’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Grenadier’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The Smart Key System standard on the Land Cruiser allows you to unlock the doors from either front door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. The INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer an advanced key system.

The Land Cruiser’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Grenadier’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Land Cruiser detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Grenadier doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Land Cruiser has standard extendable sun visors. The Grenadier doesn’t offer extendable visors.

When the Land Cruiser with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Grenadier’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Land Cruiser’s standard rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Grenadier doesn’t offer the luxury of an automatic dimming rear view mirror.

Both the Toyota Land Cruiser and INEOS Grenadier offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Land Cruiser features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Grenadier’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Land Cruiser (except 1958) keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Grenadier doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the Land Cruiser’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Land Cruiser has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The Land Cruiser’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Grenadier doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Land Cruiser has a standard Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

Compared to the INEOS Grenadier, the Toyota Land Cruiser eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Toyota Land Cruiser offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The Grenadier doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its October 2024 issue and they ranked the Toyota Land Cruiser higher than the INEOS Grenadier Fieldmaster.

The Toyota Land Cruiser outsold the INEOS Grenadier by over three to one during 2024.
