The Toyota Crown has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The S90 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Toyota Crown offers an optional Bird’s Eye View Camera and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Volvo S90 doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Crown 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the S90. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the S90 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Crown’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Crown’s reliability 40 points higher than the S90.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. With 58 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Toyota higher than Volvo.

Power ranks Toyota fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 80 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 26th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota third in overall reliability. Volvo is ranked 15th.

The Crown Platinum’s standard 2.4 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 45 more horsepower (340 vs. 295) and 90 lbs.-ft. more torque (400 vs. 310) than the S90 B6’s standard 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid.

The Crown has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The S90 doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Crown offers optional 21-inch wheels. The S90’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The front and rear suspension of the Crown uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the S90, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

For better maneuverability, the Crown Platinum’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the S90’s (35.4 feet vs. 38.7 feet). The Crown’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the S90’s (38 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

The Toyota Crown may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 pounds less than the Volvo S90.

The Crown is 4 inches shorter than the S90, making the Crown easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Crown has a much larger trunk than the S90 (15.2 vs. 13.5 cubic feet).

The Crown’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The S90 Luxury Package doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Crown to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes, based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Volvo doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the S90.

The Crown’s optional easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S90 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Crown’s headlights were rated “Good” to “Acceptable” by the IIHS, while the S90’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Crown has standard extendable sun visors. The S90 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Crown is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access too more content and better coverage than the S90, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the Crown offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the S90.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the Crown equipped with HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The S90, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the Toyota Crown empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.

The Crown Platinum’s Advanced Park can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The S90 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

According to iSeeCars.com the 2025 Toyota Crown retains 56.36% of its original value after 5 years, significantly more than the 43.09% resale value of the 2025 Volvo S90 after five years, which can save the Toyota’s owner up to $15094.86569 in depreciation.
