The Sienna has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Voyager doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Sienna Platinum has a standard Panoramic View Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Voyager only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

The Toyota Sienna comes with a standard Panoramic View Monitor, while the Chrysler Voyager doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the Sienna and Voyager have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Sienna has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Voyager’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

The Sienna’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Voyager doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Sienna has standard Safety Connect™, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Voyager doesn’t offer a GPS response system, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Sienna and the Voyager have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Toyota Sienna is safer than the Chrysler Voyager:

Side impacts caused 23% of all road fatalities in 2018, down from 29% in 2003, when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced its side barrier test. In order to continue improving vehicle safety, the IIHS has started using a more severe side impact test: 37 MPH (up from 31 MPH), with a 4180-pound barrier (up from 3300 pounds). The results of this newly developed test demonstrates that the Toyota Sienna is safer than the Voyager:

Warranty

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Sienna for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chrysler doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Voyager.

Reliability

The battery on the Sienna is in the trunk, which protects it from hot under-hood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Sienna’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Voyager’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Sienna’s reliability 15 points higher than the Voyager.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than Chrysler vehicles. With 13 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Toyota higher than Chrysler.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chrysler vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 120 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chrysler is ranked 34th.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Sienna gets better mileage than the Voyager:

Regenerative brakes improve the Sienna’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Voyager doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Sienna has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Voyager. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Toyota Sienna higher (6 out of 10) than the Chrysler Voyager (5). This means the Sienna produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Voyager every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

The Sienna has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Voyager doesn’t offer a CVT.

Brakes and Stopping

The Sienna’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Voyager are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

The Sienna XSE’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Voyager’s 65 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Sienna XSE has standard 20-inch wheels. The Voyager’s largest wheels are only 17-inches.

The Sienna offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Voyager; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Sienna has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Sienna flat and controlled during cornering. The Voyager’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For better maneuverability, the Sienna’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the Voyager’s (38.3 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The Sienna XSE/Limited’s turning circle is .5 feet tighter than the Voyager’s (39.2 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The design of the Toyota Sienna amounts to more than styling. The Sienna has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is lower than the Voyager (.3) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Sienna get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Sienna has .6 inches more front hip room, .9 inches more rear legroom, 1.4 inches more rear hip room and 2.2 inches more third row legroom than the Voyager.

Cargo Capacity

The Sienna’s cargo area provides more volume than the Voyager.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Sienna XLE/XSE/Limited/Platinum’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Voyager doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Sienna uses the Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Voyager doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

When two different drivers share the Sienna Limited/Platinum, the memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster) and outside mirror angle. The Voyager doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Sienna Limited/Platinum’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Voyager doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Sienna Platinum has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Voyager doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the Sienna the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the Voyager can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Sienna’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Voyager’s halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

Consumer Reports rated the Sienna’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Voyager’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Sienna’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the Voyager’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Sienna detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Voyager doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

When the Sienna Limited/Platinum is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Voyager’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Sienna’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Voyager doesn’t offer the luxury of automatic dimming mirrors.

Both the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Voyager offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Sienna offers available power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Voyager’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

Both the Sienna and the Voyager offer available heated front seats. The Sienna Platinum also has standard heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren’t available in the Voyager.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Sienna Limited/Platinum keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Voyager doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Sienna has a standard center folding armrest for the middle row passengers. A center armrest helps make middle row passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Voyager doesn’t offer a middle row seat center armrest.

To direct the driver from any location to a given street address, a GPS navigation system is standard on the Sienna XLE/XSE/Woodland/Limited/Platinum. The Sienna’s navigation system also has a real-time traffic update feature that offers alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Voyager doesn’t offer a navigation system.

With standard voice command, the Sienna offers the driver hands free control of the radio and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The Voyager doesn’t offer a voice control system.

Compared to the Chrysler Voyager, the Toyota Sienna eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Toyota Sienna and the Chrysler Voyager, based on reliability, safety and performance.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Sienna second among minivans in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Voyager isn’t in the top three.
