The Toyota Supra has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Supra’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GranTurismo.

Both the Supra and GranTurismo offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Supra Auto has Parking Support Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The GranTurismo’s Rear Cross Path doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Supra and the GranTurismo have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear parking sensors.

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Supra 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the GranTurismo. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the GranTurismo ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Supra’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the GranTurismo’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Supra for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Maserati doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the GranTurismo.

There are over 13 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Supra’s warranty.

The GranTurismo’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Supra has a 7000 RPM redline.

The Supra offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

The Supra stops shorter than the GranTurismo:

The Supra 3.0 Premium handles at 1.07 G’s, while the GranTurismo Trofeo pulls only .97 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Supra 3.0 Premium executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GranTurismo Trofeo (23.7 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 24.1 seconds @ .84 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Supra’s turning circle is 6.6 feet tighter than the GranTurismo’s (34.1 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Toyota Supra may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 1550 pounds less than the Maserati GranTurismo.

The Supra is 1 foot, 10.7 inches shorter than the GranTurismo, making the Supra easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
